Explosive Australian opener Travis Head continued his onslaught on England on Day 3 of the fifth and final Test of the ongoing Ashes 2025-26. Resuming innings from 91*, Head took just 18 deliveries to get to his third century of the series. By reaching the three-figure mark, the batter has equalled the record for most centuries by an Australian opener in the Ashes. He is the 7th Australian to attain the feat and only the second in the 21st century.With the form he has carried throughout the last couple of years, breaching records and placing himself in the list of legends was a likely affair for Travis Head this Ashes. Expectedly, the batter pounced on the opportunity and modified the record books.Head among elite Aussie openersHaving scored three centuries in the series, he has equalled the number formerly attained by affluent Aussie openers like Joe Darling, Bill Woodful, Arthur Morris, Michael Slater, Bill Lawry, and Matthew Hayden.Head scores a swift 150Travis Head rode his luck in the first session of Day 3 as Will Jacks dropped a regulation catch that would have sent him back to the pavilion at the score of 122. Following that, he went on to get to his 150 off 152 balls—the fourth joint fastest 150 in the Ashes.Darlings holds the record for scoring the fastest Ashes 150. He reached the milestone from 129 balls in 1898. Australia wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist is second in the list. He got to the mark in 141 balls in Edgbaston in 2001. Ironically, Head owns the number three spot as well. He scored a brilliant 150 in 143 balls in Brisbane in 2021. England opener Zak Crawley is the next player in the list with a 150 off 152 deliveries. He scored the knock at Old Trafford in the previous edition of the Ashes.Head enters another elite listThis was Head's first Test century at the Sydney Cricket Ground. With this, he has become the fifth batsman to score a Test century at seven different venues in Australia. He has got Test centuries in Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.Only Steve Waugh, Hayden, Justin Langer, and David Warner had achieved the feat earlier.Head joins 600 clubWith a century in the first innings of the fifth Test, Head's run tally in the series has gone past the 600 mark. He is only the eighth Australian batter to score 600 or more runs in an Ashes series. The others in the list are - Donald Bradman, Mark Taylor, Steve Smith, Morris, Keith Stackpole, Slater and Greg Chappell.Travis Head's ferocious knock ended after he went for a sweep shot on Jacob Bethell but got trapped in front. He scored 163 off 166 deliveries. On the back of Head's phenomenal innings, Australia are on course to take a solid lead over the visitors and conclude the series with a score of 4-1. As per the latest update, AUS are 467/7 after 115 overs. Steve Smith is batting at 112*, and Beau Webster is on 11*. They lead by 83 runs.
